According to UNESCO, Non-Formal Education is “Education that is institutionalized, intentional and planned by an education provider. The defining characteristic of non-formal education is that it is an addition, alternative and/or a complement to formal education within the process of the lifelong learning of individuals. It is often provided to guarantee the right of access to education for all. It caters for people of all ages, but does not necessarily apply a continuous pathway-structure; it may be short in duration and/or low intensity, and it is typically provided in the form of short courses, workshops or seminars. (…) Non-formal education can cover programmes contributing to adult and youth literacy and education for out-of-school children, as well as programmes on life skills, work skills, and social or cultural development.”
In 2010 I’ve started to expand my work in sexuality connecting to human rights and LGBTQIA+ activism. Within Carmo Gê Pereira, i started making workshops and open sessions and discussions with young people, young adults and other activist and social workers.
It was in 2017, with Outside In – Transforming Hate project that I expanded my work to non formal education, gathering more tools and knowledge that allow me to continue a work of passion in educating for transformation and for possibilities of acting and engaging in a world inclusive of every body, capability and encounter.
From 2018 onward I’ve been doing trainings not only in sex-education, but also in hate-speech, intersectionality and creating change.
Non-Formal Education Trainings:
This training is one of the fruits of the Outside In + project, a long-term European project between partners in Portugal, Scotland, Slovenia, Ireland and Finland, funded and supported by the Erasmus Plus program. It consists of 12 hours of training, divided into 2 days in the morning (3 hours) and afternoon (3 hours), and with breaks for coffee and lunch. In the first six hours we begin by analyzing the structure that allows and reinforces the discourse of hatred, so that recognition allows transformation. In the second part, various types of hate speech and recognition tools are analyzed. On the second day, we worked on tools to manage, manage and transform hate speech and create outputs for space and our organizations / collectives to prevent and manage Hate Speech behaviors. Training, with tools and models of Non-Formal Education, encourages the active participation of all participants.

Afterward, we analyze the social structure that allows and reinforces the discourse and behaviours of hatred that cause the need of safer spaces, so that recognition allows transformation. Training, with tools and models of Non-Formal Education, encourages the active participation of all participants.

We will examine the needs, field of action and potential autonomy for the creation of an education programme for adults that is pro-sex, inclusive and critical, and takes into account identity layers (body diversity, gender, desire orientation, sexual and relational), as well as pleasure and accessibility, the places of the desired and desiring body (self-eroticism, visibility, representation and autonomous construction of desire).
Invites its participants to think about forms of knowledge production and reproduction, important topics to focus, supports and alliances for producing an educational project or training, bearing in mind the expansion of audiences.
At the end we discuss what an inclusive programme of sex education for adults should be like and what alternative forms of sustainability might be there for such a project.
A 3 hours training that sets an approach to consent beyond the yes/no and focused on pleasure and communication. Open t young adults and adults, to everyone who wants to dive into their own body, expectations, and desires, and wants to obtain tools for communicating consent, and all the above.
